乌龙山剿匪记
Original title
In the early years after Liberation, banditry was rampant in western Hunan, where the heroic bandit-suppression campaign of the Chinese People's Liberation Army once unfolded, and the story of the hero Liu Yutang, nicknamed the "Northeast Tiger," outwitting the bandit chieftain the "Mountain-Drilling Leopard" became a household name throughout China.
With a solemn tone, a tortuous story, thrilling plot, and intense gunfights and martial action, the drama portrays the life-and-death struggle waged by a bandit-suppression squad of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, led by its captain Liu Yutang, known as the "Northeast Tiger," relying on the local people against the bandit chiefs Tian Dabang and the Mountain-Drilling Leopard, the Kuomintang female secret agent Fourth Girl, and others.
While warmly celebrating such bandit-suppression heroes as the brave and resourceful Liu Yutang; the evil-hating Tian Shitou; the boastful yet self-sacrificing He Shan; and the witty and humorous Liu Xi, the film also gives a truthful portrayal of numerous villains, including the cunning and cruel-hearted Tian Dabang and the scheming but outwardly fierce yet inwardly weak Mountain-Drilling Leopard.
The production was filmed with the assistance of the Hunan Military District of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, the Hunan Electric Power Industry Bureau, the CPC Xiangxi Autonomous Prefecture Committee and Prefecture Government, the CPC Fenghuang County Committee and County Government, the CPC Yongshun County Committee and County Government, and the Xiangxi Autonomous Prefecture Detachment of the Armed Police; it was directed by Song Zhao and written by Shui Yunxian, and starred Chen Jiadou, Shen Junyi, An Yaping, and others.
The drama won the Outstanding Television Drama Golden Eagle Award for 1987, the Third Prize of the 1988 National Flying Apsaras Television Drama Award, and the Flying Apsaras Award at the 8th China Television Drama (Serial) Awards.
