Following "Honor," this film is adapted from real cases and recounts the Ministry of Public Security's top priority robbery case in its crackdown on organized crime. A desperate criminal, a repeat violent offender, meticulously plans a major bank robbery. A gang runs rampant, chopping off a man's fingers in a scheme of underworld double-crossing. A five-year "Sky Net Operation" pushes the manhunt to its absolute limit. Bang! Bang! Bang! A burst of gunfire rings out in a city in the southwest. On August 16, a shocking case erupts: a triad gang, armed and organized, robs a bank cash-transport vehicle. Triad leader Hu Zhijun, together with his accomplices He and Yu Jie, kills or wounds five armed escorts and bank employees, seizes a huge sum of cash, and flees by car. Task force captain Zhou Tie takes charge of the case, only to discover in horror that one of the severely wounded company accountants is his own son... Zhou Tie suppresses his rage and fear, calmly analyzes the case, confirms the identities of gunman Hu Zhijun and his gang, and lays out a plan to hunt them down... When they track down the taxi, the driver has already been killed to silence him. The task force corners He Wei, but he shoots himself in the mouth out of fear of punishment. Fifteen days later, accomplice Yu Jie is arrested in City B. By then, however, ringleader Hu Zhijun has already fled to City C. Detective Zhou Tie rushes there upon hearing the news, but the cunning Hu Zhijun manages to slip away again. Meanwhile, another underworld force in Chengdu—the enforcers of an underground gambling den run by a man nicknamed "Baldy"—has kidnapped Hu Zhijun's younger brother and chopped off his fingers, threatening to kill him unless Hu Zhijun hands over the stolen money as ransom. Forced to take a desperate gamble, Hu Zhijun within three days plans and carries out a string of armed robberies and killings. Detective Zhou Tie pursues him relentlessly, but each time Hu Zhijun stays one step ahead—after each crime, he vanishes without a trace... Two years later, Hu Zhijun has gambled away every cent of his stolen loot and goes alone to City E, where he carries out several more violent robberies. Detective Chen Jianfeng is assigned to hunt him down, and the man sent to assist him is none other than Zhou Tie. After close analysis, Zhou Tie concludes that the criminal is the very man he has been pursuing for so long: Hu Zhijun. But Hu Zhijun, with his considerable criminal experience, is simply too cunning—after each crime he quickly flees the area. As the case stalls again and again, the task force is forced to redeploy. Thus begins "Sky Net Operation": 4,000 detectives stand ready. Unexpectedly, Hu Zhijun takes his own daughter hostage and enters into a life-and-death confrontation with the task force...
