道可道

Original title

Tian Liugen, the suspect in a major case in Dongzhou City, stands trial in court. His defense attorney, Luo Yi (played by Wu Xiubo), seizes on a slip of the tongue by the prosecutor, giving the criminal—whom the public believes deserves nothing less than death—a moment of reprieve. His defense sparks enormous controversy. Reactions at Tianqi Law Firm, where he works, are mixed: Deputy Director Hong Tao disapproves. His brother-in-law Lin Yuanyue is noncommittal. His assistant Gan Ruoyi (played by Hao Lei) admires him deeply. Her classmate—police captain Ma Lu—also takes an interest in Luo Yi. Yet just as Luo Yi is peeling back layer after layer to uncover more criminal evidence, Hong Tao assigns attorney Zhang Lei to take over the defense. Luo Yi is baffled, while Zhang Lei pays a nighttime visit to the public security bureau, intending to report something to Ma Lu. But under pressure, he does not go through with it. Not long after, Zhang Lei is in a car accident and is admitted to the hospital where Luo Yi's wife, Lin Heping, works. Soon after, he dies suddenly of a heart attack. During his lifetime, Zhang Lei had多次 conversations and even arguments with Luo Yi, so his death makes Luo Yi the target of public blame. Just as Luo Yi fights for his innocence and for the truth, his marriage shows warning signs, and Gan Ruoyi develops feelings for him over time. Caught between passion and law, morality and conscience, he is drawn into a tangled and mysterious web of darkness...
