Original title
A sent-down Beijing youth, Shi Debao, adopted the child of a fellow educated youth, Shi Fangyuan, while working in the countryside in Northeast China, and after bringing the child back to the city with him, he started all over again. From a public bus driver in Beijing to a conductor to a restaurant waiter, he later drew on his inherited carpentry skills to make a living going door to door repairing furniture. His talent and character caught the eye of the director of a furniture factory, who promoted him to assistant director. Finally, with the help of his first love, Luo Xiaoma, who had returned after completing her studies, Shi Debao registered a trademark and set out on his own entrepreneurial path. Shi Debao experienced three relationships, and during his second marriage in particular, he also adopted his wife Bai Ling's daughter, Qi Shaofei. He raised both daughters, neither his own by birth, to adulthood. Under Shi Debao's upbringing, the two children grew up to become a heroine commended for an act of bravery and a rural doctor. Shi Debao himself was honored as a "Hero of the People" at the "Touching Lives" awards ceremony. In the end, his elder daughter Shi Fangyuan built a monument where her father had once been sent down, in memory of her father's generation.
