Original title
Shan Xing (played by Li Lin) is a simple and kindhearted girl from the mountains who falls in love with Yusheng (played by Wang Haidi), a cadre assigned to poverty alleviation work. Yet due to the various realities of life, the two are unable to end up together. Afterward, Shan Xing marries Dabao (played by Zhang Zhaobei), a man she does not love, and bears his child. Days pass one after another, until one day Dabao's uncle, who suffers from mental illness, suddenly appears and wants to harm the child. In a moment of impulse, Dabao accidentally beats his uncle to death, and he himself goes mad as well. Shan Xing loses everything and is forced to care for the raving Dabao day in and day out. A young carpenter takes Shan Xing, who can no longer endure the torment of life, to the city, and the two live under the same roof. But Shan Xing discovers that the young carpenter actually has a wife and children—she has been deceived. To make a living, Shan Xing goes to work at a construction site, yet she can never escape a fate of being toyed with.
