大地情深

Original title

The drama tells the story of a quiet small village, where a group of simple and ordinary mothers are drawn into a fratricidal civil war because of a "Kuomintang–Communist romance," and with their blood and lives compose a tragic song of deepest love and utmost goodness. In the winter of 1946, Tianji's mother is arranging her daughter's wedding when the groom, Dabao, accidentally kills the bride. Dabao's mother, feeling she has wronged Tianji's mother, betroths her daughter Erbao to Tianji's mother's son, Tianji. Erbao refuses and runs away to escape the marriage, so Sanbao takes her sister's place and marries Tianji. Li Sen, a company commander of the Eighth Route Army, comes to Dabao's mother's home to recover from his wounds, and turns out to be Tianji's twin brother, separated from him for many years. Li Sen's mother, Fang Chen, comes to visit Li Sen and discovers Tianji. Facing Tianji's biological mother, Tianji's mother is overcome with anguish. Fang Chen is grateful to Tianji's mother for raising Tianji, and does not acknowledge him as her own, leaving in sorrow. In a later battle, Tianji and Fang Chen meet again. Tianji mistakenly believes that Fang Chen wants to take him away and is deeply resistant toward her, leaving Fang Chen in unbearable pain. At this time, news also arrives that Li Sen has died in battle. After much inner struggle, Tianji's mother secretly leaves Tianji behind and returns to the village alone, while Fang Chen, fully aware of Tianji's mother's suffering, sends Tianji back. To obtain the enemy's battle plan, Li Sen impersonates Tianji and infiltrates the enemy's ranks, but is unfortunately discovered. At the critical moment, the mother, understanding the greater cause, painfully substitutes Tianji for Li Sen, allowing the battle plan to be safely delivered, while Tianji gives his young life.
