长江一号

Original title

**Introduction** In the grim winter of 1942, the Sino-Japanese War had reached a stalemate. The region of Echang in Hubei province found itself in a labyrinthine political landscape. In the vicinity of Honghu, only the 918th Division was stationed, fighting against the Japanese. Originally a part of the Northwest Army under Yang Hucheng, the 918th Division was incorporated into the ranks of Tang Enbo after the outbreak of the war. However, during the Battle of Wuhan, they were marginalized and nearly annihilated by the Central Army. Division commander Feng Jinzhai raised the banner of resisting the Japanese externally while fighting the Central government internally, rapidly expanding his forces and becoming a formidable power within the anti-Japanese forces in Jiangbei. **Conclusion** The story of the 918th Division is a testament to the complex dynamics of the Sino-Japanese War, where internal power struggles often paralleled the fight against foreign aggression. Despite their tumultuous history, the division's resilience and growth serve as a microcosm of the Chinese people's unyielding spirit in the face of adversity. For a deeper understanding of this period, further reading on the history of the 918th Division and the broader context of the Sino-Japanese War is recommended.
