醉红尘

Original title

Shanghai in the 1930s. Nationalist officer Peng Haotian (Zheng Xi) is gravely wounded fighting the Japanese and meets nurse Lei Jinyi (Chen Yanxi). They plan to marry, but the Peng family opposes the match. Forced by strict orders to return to the front, Peng leaves; the Peng family home is razed by the Japanese, and each believes the other has died. Fired by national hatred and family grief, Peng devotes himself to assassinating Japanese invaders and Chinese collaborators. Lei, carrying Peng's child, takes the name Shen Hanbing and becomes a dancer. When they meet again, Peng has reluctantly married the daughter of a powerful military and political figure, while Lei, out of gratitude, has accepted a wealthy merchant's proposal.
