沙家浜

Original title

During the War of Resistance Against Japan, a unit of the New Fourth Army maneuvering against the enemy temporarily withdrew from the Changshu area, leaving eighteen wounded and sick soldiers to convalesce in Shajiabang on the shore of Lake Yangcheng. Hu Chuankui and Diao Deyi, the chiefs of the reactionary Loyalty and National Salvation Army, acting on the orders of the Japanese Colonel Kuroda, tried by every means to hunt down the New Fourth Army's wounded and sick. Aqing Sao, the Party branch secretary of Shajiabang, ostensibly ran a teahouse but was in fact an underground liaison for the Party; when Hu Chuankui was just starting out and was being hunted by the Japanese, Aqing Sao had once saved his life. Exploiting the conflict between Hu Chuankui and Diao Deyi, Aqing Sao waged a resourceful struggle against them, and, under the Party's leadership and with the help of the masses, overcame every peril to ensure the safe transfer of all eighteen wounded and sick soldiers.
