Original title

The emigration of an adventurer to London and his multifaceted, turbulent life, from the salons of the English aristocracy, where he hunted for a wealthy marriage, to the gold rush in America. Manolis, having first become engaged to a girl from his village, Drosoula, only to leave her as a servant to his mother, emigrates and tries everything in his tumultuous life, from chasing a dowry through a rich marriage in London to the gold in California. Having failed at everything, he returns after many adventures to his homeland, Molyvos on Lesbos, where he had been presumed drowned in a shipwreck, and reminisces about the past, while even Drosoula now refuses to marry him.
