从军记

Original title

In the autumn of 1924, during Feng Yuxiang's Beijing coup, imperial chef Zhao Liangbang and his fellow apprentices Dong Jiarui and Guan Shaoze were seized and taken to a Fengtian warlord's barracks to work as cooks. After many twists and turns, they escaped with their lives, and from then on the three apprentices took different paths. Zhao Liangbang returned to his hometown in southern Jiangsu and opened a Huaiyang cuisine restaurant, but before long he was conscripted for a second time on charges of "communicating with the Communists." There he encountered his senior fellow apprentice Dong Jiarui, and was later captured by the Red Army, where he was reunited with his junior fellow apprentice Guan Shaoze. Soon afterward, Zhao Liangbang returned to his hometown. After the Nanjing Massacre in 1937, the Japanese army held a victory banquet. The three apprentices set aside their old grievances and worked together to plan a poisoning at the banquet, but their relatives suffered brutal retaliation: Zhao Liangbang's wife and father were killed, and his family was destroyed. Faced with the confrontation between Dong Jiarui and Guan Shaoze, who were on opposing sides, and watching them fight for different beliefs, Zhao Liangbang was at a loss for a time. Yet after being tempered by the flames of war, and under the guidance of Communists, he finally laid down the chef's ladle and took up arms, throwing himself into the revolutionary torrent with firm conviction and becoming a staunch Communist.
