Qiao Zhiya and Lin Siyuan meet aboard an ocean liner while returning home after studying in the United States, and the handsome man and beautiful woman fall in love. Lin Siyuan's father is a well-known banker in Shanghai, but his beautiful daughter's romantic affair provokes joint interference from Li Xinzhi, the bank's assistant manager, and Xiao Yiran, a lawyer disguised as a man who is the daughter of Lin's father's abandoned former wife. In the end, they not only bring the bank to the verge of bankruptcy, but also force Lin Siyuan to marry Li Xinzhi. After the marriage, Lin Siyuan suffers humiliation and torment at the hands of Li's mother and son. Li Xinzhi further fabricates groundless charges that send Qiao Zhiya to prison as an innocent man.
