(ENGLISH) Ordinary Angels is one of those dramas that doesn’t hide its intentions and still manages to move you. From the start, it makes clear that it wants to appeal to emotion, empathy, and the idea of community, and it does so without cynicism or irony. It may not be subtle, but it is sincere, and that already counts for a lot. The story, based on real events, works mainly because it believes in people. Not in easy miracles or magical solutions, but in the ability to help, to persist, and to refuse to give up when everything seems stacked against you. It’s a very direct, even classical approach, but an effective one. This is a story that knows where it’s going and isn’t afraid to get there. Hilary Swank carries much of the emotional weight. Her character could easily have become an archetype, but she brings energy, contradictions, and a sense of humanity that keeps everything from feeling forced. Alongside her, Alan Ritchson is surprisingly restrained and very good, moving away from more physical roles and showing real vulnerability and pain without overplaying it. It’s true the film leans into familiar inspirational-drama clichés, and the script doesn’t always avoid predictability. At times the message is underlined a bit too much, and the pacing suffers, as if the film didn’t fully trust the audience. Still, when it focuses on the characters and small gestures, it lands beautifully. Visually, it’s sober and functional, with no excess, never distracting from what matters. Everything serves the story and its emotions, reinforcing the feeling of a film designed to move rather than impress. Ordinary Angels doesn’t reinvent the genre, nor does it try to. It’s an intense, emotional drama about solidarity and second chances, told without embarrassment. It may not be a great film, but it’s one that stirs something and briefly restores faith in the idea that ordinary people can do extraordinary things.
